Final Post

So I didn't blog every day like I said I would.  And this is my last post for this blog.  My summer got really boring and I didn't get everything I wanted to done.  Including training.  I really suffered through the beginning of the season due to that.  I'm back on track now.  Running well gearing up for the conference (Kawwwwwfrence) meet in a week and a half.  Tapering now.  Dropping back to about 60 miles a week.  Ha.  I was lucky to run 30 over the summer.  Gonna keep up the hard work for track though.

School's not that bad this year.  Sure it sucks having 4 science classes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday along with the labs on Monday and Wednesday, but it could be worse.  Glad I'm getting it over now and not trying to drag it out.  The only thing that's really gonna suck this year is the MCAT.  I hate tests.  This isn't my bitch blog though so I'll stop.  All together though, this summer was pretty good.  Looking forward to next year already.  Come soon summer, I miss you.

Work

I started my new job this week.  Monday to be exact.  Well Tuesday if you want to be technical.  I had orientation on Monday but we didn't do anything...  Whatever.  I started yesterday (Tuesday).

My job is simple.  Put shit in boxes.  You might be asking yourself, "But Matt, isn't that the exact job you had last year that you hated so much that you said you'd never go back there to work?"  You'd be partially right.  Now, I have to put bigger shit in bigger boxes and don't have a headset with Ronda in it to tell me where to put the shit.  It's actually a lot freer (that's a really strange word) job than I had last year.  Other than that I haven't been doing much of anything.  Hopefully this weekend's eventful or I have some epiphany that lets me write in my other blog because I've kind of been neglecting it lately.  I plan on playing Frisbee Friday but other than that I'm pretty open.  We'll see though...

I'll take a 4th of Freedom, Please

This blog's taken a different turn.  I'm going to keep trying to update as much as possible to keep updated but it's gonna start getting kind of boring since I'm settling down for the summer now.

Starting next week, I'll be working Monday-Thursday from 4-10 in the afternoon/evening/night.  Hopefully that doesn't kill my social life the rest of the summer.  On to today though.

I finished my book.  Sorry.  That's out of order but I'm excited about it.  The Hunger Games.  Great read.  I finished the almost 400 page book in two days.  Crazy.  I was up till 4:30 last night and finished about an hour ago tonight.  I'm so excited to get my hands on books two and three though.  The story is amazing and I encourage anyone willing to put some time aside for a good read to dive headlong into the story of Panem.

Ok.  Backing up to earlier today.  Today was supposed to be busy.  We were supposed to strip wallpaper in the kitchen.  I made sure THAT didn't happen.  Slept off and on most of the day.  People came and went throughout the day and I was surprised by Cody Adler showing up in my house when I woke up one time.  Other than that?  Went to the river to meet up with some Teenpower people for the fireworks show then went to Sammi's house and swam a little with a slightly smaller group.

I'm very glad today was what it was even though it was uneventful.  Not many more of these left this summer. Gonna have to relish the rest of this week...

Crazy, Mixed-Up Life

My plans change more than a girl trying on clothes!  I'm back in Evansville for the rest of the summer, working on my research, working for money at maybe two jobs, and getting my ass in gear on my training which I've been slacking hardcore on this summer.  It's so hard to get back into training after being injured and out of it for as long as I was.  And even though I've got my initial injury fixed, I'm beginning to have other things pop up as I try to get back to running.  The biggest issue is that my orthodics are pinching the hell out of my foot.  Tried to get that fixed but it's not helping.  I guess I'll try again.  Need to get back in shape.  Bad.

Middle School Teenpower just got over on Wednesday night.  That was a crazy 3 days.  Those kids are so unruly and don't give two shits what you say.  I'm glad that the camp is only 3 days and not a full week like high school.  This youth staff is good but the MS camp tried their patience with each other a little bit.  They used to gel so well, but during and after this camp it seems like they are falling apart a little bit.  Hopefully they can pull it together and have a good summer together.

I just got a job at TJ Maxx for the rest of the summer.  I know I said I'd never go back, but I couldn't turn down $10 an hour.  Might try to get a job at Sonic with Chris since he left Arby's in Ft. Branch and is the GM at the Sonic on Burkhardt now.  We'll see if that even starts.

Other than that and finishing this project, I hope my summer's pretty chill.  Lots of fun to come, hopefully.

Mid-Week Update

I know I haven't been blogging every day this week like I sort of promised I'd try to do.  I could say that I sort of tried but that would be sort of lying.  So I'm not going to do that.  I've been tired and didn't feel like staying up to write about what has been making me tired.  I'll recap the last few days though.

Monday
After I got to Chicago on Sunday after a stop at the Cooper residence in northern Indiana and went to the Cubs/Yankees game, I was beat and had a little sleep before my first day of work Monday.  This was not what I'd expected at all.  It was stressful.  I was flustered.  I was out of the loop.  I didn't get to do any programing that I'd be involved in.  I was all around pissed at what I had agreed to do for the next 10 weeks.  It was that day that I pretty much decided that I was going to not stay up here all summer.  I did get a run in and it was very quality.

Tuesday
Day 2 of work was a lot better.  Stuff began to make sense but I was still behind.  I still had feelings of not wanting to stay so I had a chat with Zach, my immediate boss in this endeavor, and laid it on the table that I'd probably be going home soon and not staying the duration of the summer.  He wanted me to stay but knew that I had to do what needed to be done.  Mainly that thing is the research project with the doctors in Evansville.  I need to get that done by the end of the summer since I won't have time once school starts.  Got a bike ride in on the Skokie Valley Bike Path.  That thing is awesome!  I wish Evansville, and even Indiana, would get their shit together and build something as awesome as that.  There was an awful storm that rolled through the area and knocked our power out.  I was worried for my turkey and milk I had in the fridge but it survived the power outage.  I was beat again after all that.

Wednesday
Another day that was better yet.  We had to work at Starbucks because our internet was out at the office.  We got a lot done.  I feel like I've helped get this team together and get stuff done.  Compared to what was done when I got here, what we've gotten done in these past three days doesn't even come close to the volume that was accomplished in the 3 weeks or whatever the other interns had been here.  Whatever.  I'm leaving after this week anyway.  I rode to work and back today so I didn't feel the need to actually run or ride extra.  Plus my posterior pelvic bones that sit on the seat were sore.  I did eat an entire box of shells and cheese tonight, including some on two slices of bread.  Would have been a great sandwich with some ham or bacon.  Now I'm just waiting out the rest of the week, waiting to go home now.  My Chicago visit was short lived but well worth it.

Cant say I didn't warn You

This post is gonna be long because it's covering days (21)-(30).

(21)-(24) were Teenpower week and (25) was "rest up for a day of driving to Florida" day.  So here goes for Teenpower.

This year was pretty amazing.  It went back to the 5 day camp like normal but started on a Sunday this year.  The kids this year, campers and youth staff, were phenomenal.  I got to dress as a Na'vi and Waldo.  All-in-all it was a very successful week.  I was gonna go into more detail, but it's not really necessary.  Great kids, great times.  That's pretty much it.

Now Florida.  It was a lot of just going to the pool and hanging out.  We went to Sea World on Tuesday and got security called on us on Wednesday.  We got a free go-cart ride on Thursday and all was good.  Very relaxing week with some alright people.  Haha.  It would help if most of the people weren't women and at least one of them was on her period.  Whatever.  It was fun.

Now I've got to go to bed because I'm getting up early to run and go to Chicago.  Hopefully I'll keep a better log of my days from now on.

(20)

I'm bored out of my mind right now sitting at the doctor's office.  Haven't done anything all day and the internet's getting tiresome, plus I'm not going to do anything worthwhile after I leave here since I got my Lego done last night. (it's awesome by the way) The only thing I'll be doing tonight is running or riding, haven't decided which yet, and possibly cleaning my room a little and packing for TP.

As I've said, today was worthless.  I sat here in this room all day on the computer.  Didn't even get my book out.  Stayed on the internet all day waiting for kids to come in for the research study.  Not a single one.  Wasted day in my book, even though I did get a blog post up on my other blog.

I need to get some stuff together for TP.  Haven't even started.  Should be a fun week next week.  I'll be sure to record the highlights and then post them here later.  Can't think of anything else of importance just now except that I should be getting my interview for the Chicago job some time this weekend.  Other than that, I'll post some time next week if I get a chance.  If not, it'll be hello from Florida.

(19)

Today.

The concept is relative.  More on that later.

Ran at about 7:20 this morning.  Rolled my ankle.  It sucked.  Here's what I wrote in my R2W post for the run.
I was looking for a nice easy run on the grass/ crushed limestone of the St. Hospital today but was gravely mistaken when I made that assumption. First thing that happened to make my run miserable you ask? 10 minutes in to the planned 6 miler happened on the grass. I don't think they have mowed in a week and a half at least, so I was unable to see the GIANT hole that I stepped in. Rolled my ankle. It was awful. Wasn't sure if I was going to be able to run the rest of the workout but I walked it off like a champ. Got back into rhythm and went well for a while. Then the #2 thing happened. Really. I had to poo. Stopped around 4 miles for that. Once that was done my Achilles and ankle were stiff and had to get them loose again. And then my arch started hurting again where my orthodics were pinching. (Got the orthodics fixed now though, should be good) Finished it all though.

After getting cleaned up after that, I went to YR for the work day.  That was successful.  I got stuff done and got to boss people around.  Always a plus.

Did some running after that and came home and ate some Bosco Sticks for dinner.  Delicious.  Heartburn will probably follow tomorrow though.  Watched the movie Conviction too.  That was pretty good.  Got all my Secret Pal stuff together too.  (PSSSTTT.  It's Kendall)

Gonna go finish my Lego and get to bed.  Doctor's office again tomorrow.

(18)

Today was a worthless day.  Almost.

I spent most of the day sitting in a doctor's office waiting to get subjects for my research project.  I was bored most of the day.  I'm doing it again Friday so hopefully I can get a post up on my other blog.  God knows it needs it.  But I did get one singular subject.  I guess that's more than I've gotten in a while.

I did run today too.  I've been doing pretty well about that lately.  Ran with Caleb Kerr around McCutchanville. It's really fricking hilly up there but it's all good.  Need to start upping my mileage though.  Still getting back in the swing of things after my injury.  Racing is going to suck this summer, if I do any at all.

I did realize one thing right now though.  The next two weeks might not get much posting, at least next week.  I'll be at Teenpower and then in Florida.  Hopefully I'll get at least a hard copy of next week and I'll be able to update it the next week while I'm chilling my ass off in the heat of Florida.

Probably going to go to bed and watch SportsCenter now.  It's early but I don't care.  Need to get my run in early tomorrow.

EDIT:  I did get a ton of new music today.  Seth posted a Mixtape on my wall and I downloaded the entire series plus some and put it all on an mp3 data disc and played it in my car.

(17)

Not much happened today.  Got shut down by one doctors' office and another one told me I could come do the research there.  It's all cool.

I didn't get either thing done that I said I was going to today.  Room's still dirty and the Lego's still not done.  Maybe tomorrow?

Got my run in tonight and whoever was taking shots of paint thinner and chasing with bleach needs to stop.  The smell of your vomit and those two almost made me hurl on my run.  Thanks.

Got an early morning tomorrow.  Doubling and going to the west side for that doctor's office thing.

Night.

(16)

Today was Memorial Day.  That means 3 day weekend.  Which means work weekend around our house.

I actually got a lot done in my room today.  Should be able to get it finished tomorrow.

Started building a Lego set that I've had for a couple years too.  That should also get finished tomorrow.

I'm actually starting my training now that I'm healthy and most of my aches and pains are gone now.  I took some time completely off because of my sore Achilles but now that's better.  My hip is starting to bother me a little bit but I'll get that taken care of.  Probably from my crash.  I ran tonight at 11 o'clock.  It felt amazing at that time and I hadn't yet run for the day so I got it in.  I love running around without the sun beating down and cars passing by super fast.  The lack of catcalls is also nice for a change too.  I wish I could run trails or grass in the dark though.  Maybe some day.

Lots to do tomorrow so I'd better get some sleep.

(15)

Don't remember anything from today.

Today was the guys HS track regional.  Don't really remember much else.

(13)

Well, it's raining.  Big storm's rolling through right now and it's pouring.

Got up today and had to help my mom through some stuff.  She's trying to control my life, telling me to get a job and such.  I had to give her info about the internship in Chicago and then get the TV sorted out.  They've decided to take everything digital so our TVs are all jacked up and don't work on every channel because of the digital stuff.  They've got to bring us some converter boxes or something.  Whatever.

I went to the doctors' office to get some patients, or at least set up with them to come in and get some subjects.  That should be done next week if all works out well.

Went on a bike ride with Sam today.  Bad idea.  Not because Sam's a bad rider and out of shape, which he's not, but because there was awful wind preceding these storms coming in.  Other than the wind though, the ride wasn't bad.  The tail wind was nice too.  Still need to run today though.

Probably gonna head out to Will Sievern's house and play some poker tonight.  Maybe make some money.  Then run off my disappointments after the rain has stopped.

That's it for today.

(12)

Forgot about this last night.  Screw it.

(11)

Today starts a new chapter in the summer.  The chapter is that in which I get my shit together.

Some of the stuff I did involved getting some things cleaned up around the house.  I cleaned up the tools my mom used in the garden she planted yesterday and washed the dishes.  I also inquired to the proper sources about some more details of the activities taking place the rest of my summer.  I emailed Dr. K. about the research project and sent Kovack a message about the internship.  Hopefully I can have a plan later this week for the rest of my summer.

My serious training for cross season started today too.  I will be running every day for the rest of the summer except for the occasional day off because I'm still coming back from the 6 weeks I took off this spring.  I had a good run today and outran my 3rd or 4th storm.

Teenpower is quickly approaching and it's gonna be the best week ever.  Just saying.  It's gonna be rad.

I'm hitting the sack early.  Gonna try to get a run in tomorrow morning.

(10)

Two full weeks in the books...

Not sure where these weeks went.  I kind of wish I would have done something with them actually...

Hopefully I'll start doing something this next week and I won't feel so worthless.

I'm almost through every episode of How I Met Your Mother though.  One of three discs of season 5 is done.  Not gonna be getting another one in tonight though.  Mom's dead set on getting me in the garden tomorrow.  I don't like to get dirty like that.  Just saying.

I did run today and it felt great.  Need to do more of that...

Goal: Get stuff done this summer.  I need to get a lot done.  Getting quality training is one major thing but there are others too.

Gotta get some quality sleep now though.

(9)

Boring day again.

I slept in late and didn't do much of anything.  Got some stuff accomplished on the asthma project but other than that, I watched How I Met Your Mother.  Might be done with that by this weekend...  Gonna need something else to take up time.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

(8)

I need to ration more time for these before I'm so close to it being tomorrow.  And I need to write before watching How I Met Your Mother.  Just gonna do bullets again.
  • Lunch with Dr. K to discuss asthma project stuff.
  • Took Grandpa up to nursing home to see Gran again and take her clothes this time.
  • Finished season 2 of HIMYM.
  • Owen stopped by for a bit.
  • Went to the library on my way to TP college staff training.  Was pleasantly surprised when I got 3 seasons of HIMYM when I was only expecting 2.  Should be ready to watch season 6 with Owen this weekend since he hasn't seen it either.
  • Went to TP meeting.
  • Got home and have been watching HIMYM since.
Gotta get back to my show.

I promise to run tomorrow.  At least once.

(7)

Another lazy post.

  • woke up and helped fix our dryer
  • finished watching the first season of HIMYM in less than one day
  • started season two
  • went to kick a soccer ball around with Alex
  • ate some pizza rolls
  • took a nap (4 hours at 5 o'clock)
  • watched more HIMYM
I'm gonna be up a little bit because of that nap.  I still haven't gotten gas yet.  I might be able to make it till it gets back to $3.93.

Double runs tomorrow.

(6)

Today started way too early for my liking.  It would have been fine if I hadn't stayed up till 2 something last night.  Just couldn't sleep.

The only reason I was up so early too was because my mom's computer illiterate.  She was trying to get connected to a conference presentation but couldn't figure it out.  I will give her the benefit of the doubt because it took me about 8 minutes to figure it out myself, but I was sleepy, having just been woken up from my restful slumber.  But I went to bed again after getting her connected and with sound.

Soon as she was done watching this presentation though, she was all over my ass to get stuff done.  The main thing she was on me about was actually kind of important.  I had to go to my grandpa's and go with him to the nursing home to see my grandma.  She's got Alzheimer's if you didn't know and has for quite a while, but she's doing well with it.  Our main mission was to go get her dirty clothes and take some clean socks to her.  This was accomplished no sweat.  We even got to give her a little ride down the hall.  The thing that worried me was my grandpa's driving.  Mind you, this man is 85 years old but still drives like a teenager.  I don't think it's that his reaction time is slow but that he gets distracted while he's driving and doesn't pay attention to where he should be looking.  I was a little scared, but I'm used to riding with my sister by now and my mom's not the best at paying attention either.

Once that mission was accomplished and I was back home, I get a call from my sister.  She's coming home sick, sore throat and all.  This wouldn't be bad but she has track sectionals tomorrow and I want her to perform well.  I got her some Tylenol and then I had to go to the library.  Jenna wanted some music and I'm beginning to watch How I Met Your Mother.  Excellent show by the way.  I got back from the library and ended up watching 7 episodes of HIMYM.  I might even watch some more after I get done with Chuck and House tonight.

Went for a short 5 miler before getting a shower and getting all snazzed up for Lauren Minor's birthday dinner.  It was a good time, but only, if only...

Dad's done in the shower so I gotta go watch TV.  Hopefully I'll get more runs in this week than I have in previous weeks.  My homemade Strassburg sock seems to be doing the trick on my Achilles.

See you tomorrow.

(5)

Forgot to do this last night 'cuz people were over at my house.

Got up EARLY yesterday because there was the last TAC meeting of the year.  I still didn't drive though.  I got my sister to take my bike on the back of her car and I was planning on riding after that, more than just going home.  Once I got on my bike though, I realized that my Achilles tendon was sore as hell still.  That turned my 30+ mile ride into a 9 miler home.

I took a "nap" when I got home.  I started watching Sin City and ended up sleeping till 1:30.  I woke up and finished the movie before getting my stuff together for the SIAC meet.

I still didn't drive.  Rode with my sister to the meet.  I felt kind of bad though because I missed her hurdles race.  I went on a run in the neighborhoods surrounding Central with Scotty and Clay before the meet started and we didn't get back before Jenna ran.

The meet went well.  Caleb Kerr got DQed in the mile for false starting.  Other than that, no hitches.  The MHS girls won this meet like they won city, handedly.  Mom, Dad, Owen, Kevin Lasher, and I went to Rounder's Pizza for supper.  Their chicken pizza is delicious.  I think it's called the "Jeremy"?  Mom and Dad took Kevin home and more people showed up at our house.  We watched The Perfect Storm (good movie, but I'm not gonna re-watch it any time soon) and then they all left and I went to sleep.  The nap didn't seem to help my tired level of the day.

Now it's the weekend.  No post till Monday.

(4)

So since Blogger was down last night, this post is coming in the morning but I wrote it last night.

Today was actually a fun day.  Still kind of slow starting but a good day in general.

Woke up late as usual in my summer days.  I was planning on doubling my runs today but that ended up not happening.  The run did happen, just at a very in opportune time.  There was a shower ran through the Evansville area this afternoon that I thought was going to kill my hopes to run today.  Luckily it only lasted about 5 minutes, enough to make the humidity jump to 100%.

After my run I cleaned up and got ready to go to the SIAC track meet to watch my sister and the rest of the Tigers (and a select few other individuals that I actually care about) run to their hearts content.  Jenna’s doing pretty well in the meet thus far, qualifying for all the events she’s been entered in.  My boy Caleb Kerr also had a decent run tonight too.  The boys 2 mile went out fairly slow for their standards, coming through the mile in 4:55.  Caleb came back and ran an awesome negative, leaving the rest of the field to eat dust.

I got through today without driving.  Still going strong on that half tank even though gas prices are beginning to fall.

There was something that I was meaning to talk about in this post but I’ve completely forgot about it now.  Oh well.

Early morning tomorrow so I’d better go to bed. (12:01am)

(3)

More of the same today.  Already lazy so I'm gonna bullet point.

  • Washed the dishes.
  • Planned to ride, run, go to the TP staff meeting on my bike but that didn't happen due to the next point.
  • Mom called and basically told me I was working the gate at a baseball game.  I had been planning to not drive at all the rest of the week.  (I want to see how long I can go on a half tank, and gas is over $4).  I did get $20 out of it though.
  • Went to the staff training with my sister because we didn't need to both drive.
  • Had a chat with Preston about the goings on of TP this year and planned some stuff.
First week's half over already.  It's gonna go WAY too fast.

P.S. I desperately need to run.  I'm starting to feel bad and out of shape.

(2)

Forgot to do this last night so lets see if I can still remember what I did yesterday.

Didn't wake up early again because there was no reason to.  Once I was up though, my mom made me pack some hardware from the garage to some guy's truck that was here.  Not tough work but it got my day going, I suppose.  After he was gone, I just had to chill till my interview at 1.

The interview went well.  Seems like I have a good chance of getting the job as a vampire at St. Mary's.  It'd be a good job to get me involved in the medical field a little bit.

After the interview was over, I came home and the kid down the street was at my house already.  This kid comes down to play with the dog.  He's like 5 I think and Kipper could eat him if he wanted.  I went down to my grandpa's to talk with him, my uncle, and my cousin and brought the dog so he wouldn't bark or jump his invisible fence.  The kid followed.  I finally got rid of him when I came home to change out of my interview clothes.  But that was short lived.

Jenna had a friend coming over to study and watch Glee last night.  When McKenzie got here, she LET THE KID INTO THE HOUSE!  I was doing everything I could to avoid that EVERY TIME he came down before.  I guess once you break the seal though...  I had to go get my bike handle bars put on my bike so I left them with him.

It felt good to get my bike back to full health.  It didn't last long though.  Bruce and I went for a ride and 20 miles in I got a flat.  After getting about 2-3 more miles down the road on my flat, Bruce was back with my car to pick me up.  Just gotta get that flat fixed and we'll be ready to roll again.

I finally got my stuff back from Coach Hillyard yesterday too.  Now that I have my running shoes back, I can get to training like I really want to.  Tomorrow (today) is a busy day so I've got to get going.

Still Looking for a Sign-off

Monday, May 9, 2011

(1)

Today was a pretty boring day, for the most part.  Didn't really wake up at any particular time since there was nothing on the schedule except the random stuff my mom decided to tell me to do, which I didn't.  By the way, that list included:

  • mow the lawn
  • do some laundry
  • there was something else that I can't remember because she brought it up at dinner, but it's irrelevant because I didn't do it anyway.
Since I had wrecked my bike yesterday and I left my running shoes in Rolla, MO with the team, the first things on MY to-do list were get my bike fixed and get my stuff from coach.  Neither got accomplished, but both were started and will be accomplished tomorrow.  Scout's honor.

The exciting parts of my day came in two very similar and well timed offers I received.  (By similar I mean that they are both similar in that they will amass me funds to live on.  Nothing else is really similar about them though.)  First of all, Mr. Zachary Kovack presented me with the specs of the internship he offered me earlier last week.  This is on my list of things-that-might-be-a-possibility-to-do because it seems like a really good time and I'd fit well in the atmosphere presented.  The second thing that was thrown at me was an interview for a job as a phlebotomist.  That's tomorrow so I'll be sure to write about it.

The only thing I don't like about the phlebotomist job is that it interrupted my viewing of Dear John.  Yeah that's right, I was watching a chick flick by myself.  Get over it.

Other than that, nothing really happened.  I nursed my wounds and played some video games with my sister tonight.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

On the docket for tomorrow: gotta get my stuff back, get interviewed, run, get my bike fixed, and maybe ride tomorrow.  We'll see if all that gets accomplished.

Need a good sign-off.  The (#) thing took the title's place...

What it's all about

This is just going to be a really simple thing for me to keep record of what I do in a day.  Just a way to make sure that I'm keeping busy, like that's any trouble for me.  It's nothing special, but it'll tell you what I do in a day.  Some days will probably be just a list, while others will be long stories and accounts of my day.  In all, I'd like to shoot for 76 posts, one for every weekday of my summer break and this one, which I'm not counting in my (75) days.

Before you start bitching that I stole the title from the movie, that's the point.  Except this isn't going to be about a girl and my relationship with her (at least not exclusively about that).  One more thing.  This is no holds bared so I'm probably going to offend some people if they pissed me off that day.  Some posts could even be set to private but if you really want to see them, I may share.  I really hope I don't have to do that though.  I want this summer to be relaxing and fun, not full of drama.  So here goes.
